How To Shop Like a Minimalist

March 25, 2015

This journey has been less and less challenging. I always think of what has been motivating me to change when I do go to ahem, Target. The sales and clearance items always make it hard sometimes. You’ll start to get a better idea of things you need and want. It’s okay to put stuff in the cart. Just evaluate all your items before you checkout. Lately, I have simply left my cart because in reality, I didn’t need anything. Here are some questions to ask yourself when you go out shopping.

Am I getting this just because it’s on sale?
40%, 60%, SALE, SALE, SALE!! I’ve always been a sucker for sales! However, it won’t be a great deal if you end up never wearing it.

Does it fit right this minute?
I know, you want to plan for the future. When you loose weight or inspire you to. However, it doesn’t happen overnight and will take some time. So dress for yourself now and make sure it fits you now.

Am I comfortable in it?
I usually feel the fabric first, but try it on and feel it on your skin. Move around and make sure you are absolutely comfortable.

Does this go with other items in my closet?
This is super important, because if you buy something that doesn’t go with your current wardrobe. You won’t wear it.

Do I love this with my whole heart?
Does it make you feel like you can conquer the world? Does it make you want to dance around? This is far my favorite thing to ask when I shop with friends. If you don’t LOVE it, it’s not worth it.

What are some other tips for shopping?

Coveting: Dirty Pretty Things

March 18, 2015

Her perfume reminded me of freshly picked flowers and sticky candyfloss, mixed with a gentle hint of debauchery.

Dirty Pretty Things is the much anticipated book by Michael Faudet. His whimsical and often erotic writing has already captured the hearts and minds of literally thousands of readers from around the world. He paints vivid pictures with intricate words and explores the compelling themes of love, loss, relationships and sex. All beautifully captured in poetry, prose, quotes and little short stories.

I stumbled across this book on tumblr and enjoyed the interesting poems. It’s beautifully written and felt joy when I read a few of the poems. It’s on my list for my next book purchase. What are your thoughts about this book?

Union Public House

Saturday started real lazy. We (le bf) had plans to go to Biosphere 2 but we slept in until about 2:00 pm. We are a bit of night owls. Tucson weather has been really nice and warm, although, it’s beginning to get into the hot summer months. I’m really dreading it. Waking up late we were definitely hungry, so he thought of eating at a Jamaican spot. We stopped by Starbucks to hold me over a bit and headed down to the University of Arizona. The shopping center right in front has an Urban Outfitters so I wanted to check out the sale rack. Lot’s of cute things but with my wardrobe plan in mind. I stayed mindful of simple pieces. I was able to get a white bralette on sale for $10. After we started to head to the the Jamaican spot, however, he wanted to go to a nice place with outdoor seating. We ended up an Union Public House restaurant – pub, and bar that is dedicated to uncompromising quality, featuring made-from-scratch American fare with local ingredients.

The atmosphere and design is pretty cool. They had metal chairs, exposed brick. Felt very relaxing. We decided to sit outside as planned. It was a bit windy but the place was pretty empty during that time. The selection of food and drinks were amazing.

I’ve been really into mules. I ordered a Brazilian Mule, which they use Acai liqueur. It was the best mule I had! I also tried the Mexican mule, which was perfection as well. He ordered a Bloody Mary that had a piece of bacon in it. I don’t like drinks that are spicy so I didn’t care for it. Apparently, our waiter A.J stated that he has worked there for 6 months and no one has ordered that drink from him before. Supposedly, they stopped making it a while ago, but he was able to have it ordered.

For the quality of food and drinks the price was reasonably priced. I’m sure a place like that in San Diego would cost a few dollars more. We shared an order of a burger and fries and an appetizer of crab cakes. I finally have a favorite restaurant in Tucson!
